Options for Block Themes adds practical settings to core blocks and provides focused tools for transferring Global Styles, templates and template parts between themes or WordPress sites.

Theme and block options

The Theme Options screen brings the pluginÌtumọ̀ Yorùbá: ’s enhancements together in one place:

Make a block-theme header sticky and optionally shrink its Site Logo while scrolling.
Add expandable submenus and an on-scroll overlay option to the Navigation block.
Turn Group and Cover blocks into full-block links.
Give Details blocks accordion-style behaviour by closing other open Details blocks.
Populate a Gallery block from an ACF or SCF Gallery field.
Show or hide blocks conditionally by date and time with Block Logic.

Transfer Global Styles

Download Global Styles as a JSON file independently of templates and template parts. Use the file as a backup, migrate styles to another site or theme, or edit the JSON before uploading it to the active theme.

This focused styles-only workflow is useful when you do not want to export and move an entire block theme.

Transfer templates

Download customized templates individually as JSON files and upload them to the active theme on another site. You can also:

View customized templates associated with the active or an inactive theme.
Change a templateÌtumọ̀ Yorùbá: ’s title, description or slug.
Save a template as a copy associated with the active theme.
Delete a database customization without deleting the original template supplied by the theme.

Custom slugs can follow the WordPress Template Hierarchy for custom post types, taxonomies, specific posts, pages and other contexts.

Transfer template parts

Download customized headers, footers and other template parts individually as JSON files, then upload them to the active theme on another site. Customized template parts associated with inactive themes can also be viewed, downloaded or deleted.

Classic-theme compatibility

The plugin retains its original options for enabling the block Template Editor on a classic theme and restoring legacy Customizer links where applicable.

Activate the plugin through the Plugins screen in WordPress.
Go to Appearance > Options for Block Themes to configure theme options or transfer design data.

FAQ

How do I stop a sticky header covering the beginning of a template?

The Sticky Header option deliberately fixes the header over the page. This supports transparent headers, headers that only occupy part of the viewport width, and headers that collapse or shrink while scrolling. The plugin therefore does not automatically move every templateÌtumọ̀ Yorùbá: ’s content down.

For each template whose content should begin below the header:

Open the template in the Site Editor.
Select the first suitable Group or other container immediately after the Header template part.
Add top padding equal to the initial, fully expanded header height.
In WordPress 7.1 or later, use the blockÌtumọ̀ Yorùbá: ’s responsive styles to set appropriate top padding for desktop, tablet and mobile layouts. Check each layout visually because logos, navigation and other header content may resize or wrap.

Use the initial expanded height when Animate Logo is enabled, not the smaller scrolled height. Do not include the WordPress admin bar in this padding; the plugin positions the sticky header below the admin bar separately.

Padding is generally preferable to margin when the first container has its own background, because the background then extends through the reserved space. Leave the padding unset on templates designed to begin behind the header, such as a Cover or hero section.

On older WordPress versions without responsive block controls, use theme spacing presets where they provide a suitable result, or add narrowly scoped CSS media queries for the affected templates. Avoid a single site-wide value unless the header and required spacing are genuinely the same at every screen size.

Options for Block Themes by Oliver Campion of Web:D has built in an option to: enable expandable submenus to the Navigation Block modal – which is tech speak for collapsible submenus on mobile devices. The great plugin “Options for Block Themes” offers some interesting things that are very interesting for users who create their websites with a block theme such as Twenty Twenty-Four. For me, an important aspect was the shrinked header. But the other options are also very helpful because they simplify the management of block themes.

Not for rookies as it takes a little bit of fiddling but this fiddling is necessary and not a lot. If you have any experience at all and want to create new or modified template copied this plugin is the bomb.

This plugin has been a huge help to me because we run multiple websites, and even with the Site Editor making all of the sites identical would be tiresome. In our case, it was simply a matter of installing Template Manager on both sites, then one click to select a template on the donor site, and a second click to download it. Then (in the recipient site) after a click or two to delete modifications to the old templates, a final click to upload the new one. All that then remains is to edit a page and select the new template in the setting dropdown. It saves hours and hours of work!
